Our team’s newly published study among young Black women with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) found that:
- Those in the “high” West African ancestry group had more luminal androgen receptor tumors and less mesenchymal tumors than those in the “low” West African ancestry group (14.9% vs. 4.9%; 25.5% vs. 34.2%).
- Mesenchymal tumors were marginally associated with worse overall survival (although it did not reach statistical significance).
These findings underscore how TNBC subtypes may be used as prognostic biomarkers across populations.
