New single institution study suggests HIGHER rates of BRCA1/2 mutations in Hispanic women with breast cancer.
Specifically, a study of 2401 unselected breast cancer patients showed that Hispanic women were more than 2.5 times more likely to have a BRCA1/2 mutation compared to non-Hispanic women.
BRCA1/2 mutations were found in:
- 4.4% of Asian women
- 8.1% of Black women
- 4.8% of White women
These findings show the importance of identifying and offering testing to women with breast cancer, especially those from minoritized racial and ethnic groups.
