The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) released updated Genetic Familial High-Risk Assessment Colorectal, Endometrial, and Gastric Cancer guidelines on October 3rd, 2024.
In these updated guidelines, NCCN revised information about EPCAM gene (which has usually been lumped together with MSH2) as follows ⤸
- Risk of gynecologic cancers is variable and related to the extent and location of the deletion of EPCAM and proximity to the MSH2 promoter.
- Counseling and surveillance for gynecologic risk recommended based on family history and shared decision making, and later age of risk-reducing surgery (similar to PMS2-related guidelines) may be appropriate.
